WELCOME TO FLORIDA’S NATURE COAST

Citrus County, “Mother Nature’s Theme Park”, has just the right mix of lifestyles and geography to make it one of the most diverse and exciting places in the state. With its mild winter days, soft summer nights, and unpolluted skies that reveal spectacular sunsets and stars that seem close enough to touch. The county is surrounded by water and is bounded on the north and east by the Withlacoochee river and the Tsala Apopka chain of lakes, on the east, and on the west by the Gulf of Mexico, into which the Homosassa and Crystal Rivers flow. Golfing, canoeing, nature studies, hiking, scuba diving, fishing, and swimming are just a few of the activities enjoyed by its residents and visitors. It is also well known for its manatee population which are best seen in January in Kings Bay or in one of the other seven rivers.

Inverness, which is the county seat, offers a small-town lifestyle that provides peaceful neighborhoods that are ideal for raising a family or for retirement communities. The local chain of lakes contributed to the city’s name, which originates from the Scottish Inverness, meaning land at the foot of Lock Ness.

Just south of Inverness on US 41 is the old farming village of Floral City. It’s beauty stands out with its canopied streets of majestic century old oaks draped in spanish moss.

Other cities within Citrus County include Crystal River, Homosassa, Homosassa Springs, Hernando, Lecanto, Beverly Hills, and Citrus Springs.
